The 5 day Therapeutic Massage Certificate Course is a comprehensive course that definitely allows people to practice after doing the course, but the 10 day Therapeutic Massage Diploma course involves a lot more practical experience as well as covers in more depth subjects such as aromatherapy and reflexology, as well as theory topics such as meridian theory.
We teach the essence of what it takes to be an excellent massage therapist. We only teach what we have found to be useful after years of practicing. For example many colleges have a much heavier emphasis on rote learning latin anatomical terms than we do. We believe that practitioners should speak to clients in a way that the client understands rather than copying the Western orthodox model of patient client relationships where the health practitioner actually disempowers the patient’s critical role in the healing process by speaking to them in a jargon filled language that the patient doesn’t understand.
By minimizing the teaching of anatomy during classroom hours we are able to save a lot of our student’s valuable time and money. Another way is that we teach a combination of the best techniques form many different styles of massage and teach advanced massage techniques from Day 1 rather than drawing out a course by teaching very basic techniques for a long time and then gradually introducing advanced techniques. We teach you both beginners and advanced techniques and concepts from the start. We are able to do this easily because of the fact that when we teach we speak about advanced techniques and concepts in an easy to understand way. This is the gift of a good teacher. They are able to impart a lot of important information and experience in a short period of time
"I’ve learned more in 4 days than I did in a 10 week course I previously did plus I’m confident that I can perform on any client."Amanda (Zeno) Jardine
"Ray is an amazing guy - he is in tune with everything. I learned more about how the body responds to massage with practical teaching in 4 days than in 2 years at TAFE"Rachael Boyd
Massage laws vary enormously around the world. Both of our massage courses qualify you to work legally in the following areas and call yourself a massage therapist in all of Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the United Kingdom and much of Asia, South America, Africa, many parts of Europe.
You can also legally practice in the following states of the US (see also our section on massage laws): Alaska, California, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Wyoming. You can practice in all of Canada also, but in Ontario and British Columbia you must call yourself a Raynor technique therapist rather than a massage therapist. Certain places in the US and Canada also have city and county laws to do with massage. Our course satisfies many of these local regulations “number of hours of training” requirements but some of them require you to do a course that focuses on a particular number of hours of training rather the law caring about the actual quality of your training in order to get a license. Even so in many of these places people can still practice, like in Ontario and BC in Canada by calling themselves a Raynor therapist rather than a massage therapist.
This does not stop people from practicing in states with massage laws if they don’t charge for their services. Some people actually offer free massages along with other products that they sell. Check with a lawyer about individual state laws and ways to get exemptions from them.
Also some state laws exempt practices such as reflexology and reiki from their massage laws.
No, there are no other required costs and our course notes are included as part of the course. However we do have high quality massage tables, charts, videos and books for sale at the course that are optional extras for students to purchase.
We have very comprehensive course notes and optional videos available to refresh your knowledge and the course provides ample time for revision and lots of practice.
In the 5 day Certificate course all assessment is practically orientated. There is a small theoretical test in the Diploma program that covers topics such as contraindication, hygiene, professional codes of conduct etc. The courses are primarily hands on with the vast majority of time spent massaging, being massaged or watching the teacher’s demonstration. Therefore only minimal English language skills are required.
You will be invited to re-attend the course at a later date.
The type of massage we teach you will set you apart from most other average massage therapists. Our style of massage teaches you to actually fix many of peoples' chronic problems and injuries from their source therefore there will be no shortage of work for you because it is still very rare to find massage therapists who know how to massage like this and once a person has had a massage from one of our graduates they very rarely will want to go back to a different therapist.
There are no educational requirements. We have students as young as 16 and as old as 75. The most important qualities are a caring nature, a willingness to help people and a good sense of touch (which we help you develop if you don’t already have it.
"Thank you both for sharing your knowledge, advice and energy during the April/May Remedial and most recent Shiatsu course. I had such a great time and learnt heaps, I think that the learning is made easier because of the relaxed friendly atmosphere set by both of you. Both of these courses were exceptional and the best I've done and probably will do. Thanks again"Suzie Klaasen
"Just want to thank you for your teaching skills that provided me with the job that I was searching for. I work on the biggest cruise ship in the world in the Caribbean, earning huge money and totally enjoying every minute of it. For the short amount of time that I have been massaging, all American guests can tell me is that it is the best massage they have ever had, so thanks to you for passing the buck!!!!! "Adam Carswell
"I originally attended Brandon's courses just to boost my University application and got a lot more than I had bargained for. Brandon taught me how to appreciate the therapeutic benefits of massage for both me, the massage therapist, and also for the person receiving the massage. This is a gift I will treasure for life."Tyson Haigh Gold Coast, Australia (graduated October 2002).
